TV Presenter Karen Martini headlines Parklands Food Fest

The award-winning chef, restaurateur, author and television presenter (Better Homes and Gardens, My Kitchen Rules Judge and Intolerant Cooks) Karen Martini will headline Parklands Food Fest 2017, alongside top Sydney chef Dan Hong and his chef/ restaurateur mother Angie Hong, and popular Western Sydney food writer and prolific cookbook author Ross Dobson.
Former Executive Chef at the critically acclaimed two-hatted restaurants Icebergs Dining Room and Bar in Bondi, Melbourne Wine Room and author of eight best-selling cookbooks, Karen will entertain audiences with favourite recipes from her books New Kitchen and Salads and Vegetables, using fresh Parklands produce
Learn new recipe ideas and expert cooking tips from Karen as she draws on her French Tunisian-Italian heritage, professional cooking career and knowledge as food editor for The Age’s Sunday Life Magazine, plus the challenges of feeding good food to her young family.
“I’m really looking forward to celebrating food, sampling a wide range of multicultural dishes from Western Sydney’s great food businesses and discussing ingredients with local farmers. And I’m especially excited about sharing my recipes and ideas to Western Sydney audiences,” said Karen.
Also on the celebrity chef line-up for Parklands Food Fest is local talent Ross Dobson, popular food writer and cookbook author. Dobson, who has 15 titles to his name, will demonstrate how to recreate recipes from his latest book Tuck In which focuses on cooking hearty meals for every occasion that are simple, fuss free and delicious.
Growing up in Western Sydney, Ross’ passion for food began when he was young, influenced by the cuisines of his neighbours from Hong Kong, Greece, Egypt and Italy. A self-taught cook, Ross has operated several successful eateries in the west including The Union Restaurant (Penrith) and Café at Lewers (Emu Plains).
Ross has also been a contributing food editor for the Australian BBC Good Food Magazine and has written feature articles for The Sun Herald, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
Parklands Food Fest is a free community event, now in its sixth year. Its Home Grown theme celebrates the best of Western Sydney’s food and drinks businesses. The festival will be held at Lizard Log Amphitheatre, Abbotsbury on Saturday 9 September (10am- 4pm) with free on-site parking.
Parklands Food Fest highlights include more than 50 food stalls, the Parklands’ own fresh farm produce, live music, cooking demonstrations by leading food personalities, gardening workshops, a huge range of kids’ entertainment, our Home Grown Microbrewery Marquee offering a variety of locally-brewed craft beers, presented by Sydney Beer Week and the brand-new Sweet Spot which will be serving a selection of glorious desserts including artisan gelato, crème brulee, churros, macarons, sweet crepes, waffles and much more.
