Join us on Sunday 14 August for Science in the Scrub, a FREE, family fun day out at Western Sydney Parklands this National Science Week!

Learn about the Parklands, meet our native animal residents and let your curiosity guide you as Lizard Log transforms into a pop-up village of scientific delights!

Unearth your inner scientist through hands-on, family-friendly science experiments and displays, learn bush survival skills at our Bush Craft Village, and be sure to keep an eye out for the incredible roaming dinosaur, who arrives for a prehistoric tour through the scrub!

Meet real life scientists, biologists, geologists and researchers as you visit over 25 awe-inspiring stalls and activity stations. It’s free to attend with food trucks, picnic areas and fun science activities to entertain both adults and children alike!

  • Native Bees - Learn about Australia's diverse native bees
  • Bubbleheads - Have some fun with giant bubble making!
  • Bugs About - Learn to love creepy crawlies at the live Bug Display
  • Australian Wildlife Display - Meet native furry, feathered and scaly friends at the Wildlife Display
  • Australia National Maritime Museum - Science under the sea with a pop-up ocean lab

How to get there:

Parking at Lizard Log is limited, so we strongly recommend taking public transport to get to Science in the Scrub:

  • Bus 835 from WSU Penrith to Prairiewood, alighting at The Horsley Drive before Cowpasture Rd, Wetherill Park (Stop 2164148), then walk 900m to destination

  • Bus 813 from Bonnyrigg to Fairfield, alighting at Lizard Log, Western Sydney Parklands (Stop 2176312), then walk 600m to destination

Discover From Swamp to Scrub for a virtual journey of two of Sydney’s most iconic parks – Centennial Parklands and Western Sydney Parklands! With nine science activities, including adventures to complete on screen and away from the computer, From Swamp to Scrub brings the science behind Sydney’s unique flora, fauna and parks to life, whilst keeping budding scientists engaged and having fun along the way!


This project received grant funding from the Australian Government for National Science Week, an annual celebration that excites the inner scientist in us all.
